Trying to make sense of training through writing.
Residency has been simultaneously the most exhilarating, exhausting, and enlightening period of my life. Most days I get home from work and don’t know quite what to do with all of the slices of life I’ve been exposed to. This blog is an attempt to sort through those experiences, and an invitation for you to do the same, since illness and death touch each of us at various points.
By way of more conventional introduction, I hail originally from Georgetown, the 7th largest city in Kentucky. I am now a third-year pediatrics resident at Boston Children’s Hospital and Boston Medical Center, a residency program affiliated with Harvard Medical School and the Boston University School of Medicine; I started residency in June 2018 after attending medical school at the NYU School of Medicine and studying biochemistry at Furman University for undergraduate studies. I will start training in pediatric nephrology (kidney disease in children) at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital come July 2021.
While this hopefully goes without saying, all of the content here reflects my personal opinion, and in no way represents the stance of any of my employers, past or present.
In addition to my recreational writing, I have a strong interest in medical education and tutor actively for Steps 1, 2, and 3 of the US Medical Licensing exam after scoring >270 on all 3 steps; if this is of interest to you, please see the contact page for more info.
